Recovery coaching through the NDIS is a relatively new NDIS service. Psychosocial recovery coaches help participants who need support with managing any challenges that arise out of daily life with psychosocial disabilities. The aim is to increase your, or your loved one’s, independence and participation in society through capacity-building support.
Recovery coaching provides everything that standard support coordination does, with additional mental health supports in place. New Growth understands that when you’re battling a mental health disorder, seeking support can be another load on your plate you’re not positioned to deal with – that’s why we’re here to help you access the support that’s available to you.
We’ll do the heavy lifting on accessing funding and services, so you can focus on recovering and moving forward.
The NDIS definition of a psychosocial disability is: ‘A mental health issue that affects people’s daily activities such as socialising or interacting with others in a social setting, learning or self-care, or their capacity to fully participate in society’. This can include disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and severe depression or anxiety.
Recovery coaches will focus on coaching you, or your loved one, to be able to manage your life on a daily basis. They’ll collaborate with other services, NDIS-funded and otherwise, to support you and help you work towards the best possible outcome. Recovery coaches will work collaboratively with you and your family to design, plan, and put into place a recovery plan that helps with the following:
To access NDIS-funded psychosocial recovery coaching, you must be an NDIS participant with a plan that acknowledges your psychosocial disability. Recovery coaching can be included under the ‘Improved Daily Living‘ or ‘Capacity Building Supports’ in your NDIS plan.
For people living with psychosocial disabilities, life can sometimes feel isolating and challenging. A recovery coach can change that narrative by giving you a roadmap towards a better life.
It’s important to find the right recovery coach for you, and New Growth is here to help. We know the potential impact a good recovery coach can have on your life, and we want to help you make the most of this option.
If you or your loved one are on the NDIS and feel you could benefit from psychosocial recovery coaching, reach out to us. We’ll help you gain a deeper understanding of what this service is, how it can help, and how you can access it.
