At our Briggs Street SIL home in Caulfield, we recently celebrated a very special birthday – Wayne’s!

Wayne is one of our much-loved residents and a big part of our New Growth Care family. To mark his birthday, our team organised a night out at the opera to see The Barber of Seville, and what a night it was!

Wayne absolutely loved it. From the moment the curtain went up, he was completely immersed in the music. He laughed, he sang along, and even waved his hand like he was conducting the orchestra. Watching him so engaged and full of joy was truly beautiful, and a moment that meant so much to all of us.

At New Growth Care, we believe life should always be filled with experiences, no matter your age or diagnosis. Wayne lives with dementia, but that doesn’t stop him from doing the things he loves and continuing to make memories.

Why Experiences Matter for People Living with Dementia

For people living with dementia, engaging in familiar and joyful experiences can have powerful benefits. Music, theatre, and community outings stimulate the senses, spark memory, and bring comfort through routine and rhythm. These experiences can reduce anxiety, improve mood, and help maintain a sense of identity and independence.

It’s not just about going out, it’s about feeling connected, valued, and part of the world. At New Growth Care, we make it a priority to support our residents in continuing to do the things they enjoy, whether that’s going to the opera, celebrating birthdays, or simply sharing a meal with friends.

Every milestone deserves to be celebrated, and every person deserves to feel seen and included. Wayne’s night at the opera was more than just a birthday outing; it was a reminder of how much joy can come from honouring what makes each resident unique.

We’re so proud of our team for making these moments possible, and we’re already looking forward to the next celebration.
